NIPMUC TRIBE CULTURAL CENTER

Community Center in Petersham, MA

Spring 2017 Architecture Studio | Instructor: Ray Mann

The design sketch for the Nipmuc tribe community center is inspired by a folk tale of the tribe, recounting the stories of the five fingers that represent different generations in the tribe and the family. The five wings hence service different programming and group ages in the community center, connected by a joining corridor facing a pow-wow pit. The outdoor areas are programmed with community gardens and traditional herb-drying activities.
